WHY YOU SHOULD SEE THE NEW VERSION OF "THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO"

MTV has already hailed David Fincher's latest journey into darkness as the BEST FILM OF 2011. A lot of top notch publications have reviewed the movie very favorably. Some have called it "brilliant" or "electrifying" and almost everybody agrees that Rooney Mara utterly inhabits the character of Lisbeth Salander.

In general however, reviews for the American remake of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO seem divided in to two camps. One side loves it and praises it for the excellent movie that it obviously is. The other camp flat out refuses to review the movie itself preferring instead to go on endlessly about how the story was a best selling novel and everybody already knows the story and plus there was a Swedish film version so why in the world would you want or need to see the new American version?

I'll tell you why you need to see the American version: David Fincher. That's why.

Fincher is simply put one of the most talented and unsentimental directors working in Hollywood today. The director of SEVEN, FIGHT CLUB, ZODIAC, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON and THE SOCIAL NETWORK makes movies on a technical and artistic level far above the average Hollywood or Swedish hack.

But back to my point---the latter group of critics generally don't bother to actually talk about the film's merits at all save for possibly mentioning Rooney Mara's amazing performance. I suspect this is because most movie reviewers have little to no first hand knowledge or experience actually writing scripts or stories of any kind much less any practice setting up lights, putting film in a camera or cutting that film into a serviceable movie later on.

Most critics have never written the score for a film. Much less recorded that score. Most critics have no conception of what it is like to be on a film set or even a lowly television commercial set for that matter so they essentially don't know what to talk or write about. These reviewers are simply ignorant and they show their technical AND artistic ignorance in their reviews.

These opinionated ladies and gentlemen don't have the ability to talk or write seriously and professionally about film-making itself so they make do by blathering on about the violence in DRAGON TATTOO (out of context) or the supposed similarities between the American and Swedish versions. I'm referring to an entire generation of movie critics who probably don't know much about shutter speed, lens apertures, focal lengths, long lenses vs. short lenses, tungsten bulbs vs. fluorescent, film cameras vs. digital cameras, they wouldn't know a dolly from a jib from a Techno-crane. They have no idea how to use Avid or Final Cut Pro to edit a movie. These people have never had to record sound on a set or location. They've never made props or created costumes. They wouldn't know how to correctly apply make up to an actor's face if their lives depended on it. These people therefore, in my opinion, ought probably to be reviewing children's books or maybe food recipes or plants for your garden---not movies.

The negative crowd refuses to deal with the vast differences between the Swedish and American versions, neglecting any discussion of David Fincher's far better script, far tighter construction, better pace, better acting, immensely better lighting, staggeringly better camera movement, better staging of actors (how they enter and leave rooms and where they are positioned in the frame), better production design, make-up, costumes, effects, fantastic color grading (which is now an integral part of all modern movie making).

Absolutely no review that I've read so far even mentions in passing that the movie was digitally shot (without film) on the revolutionary 4K RED Epic camera system (do they even know what 4K is?) which is changing movie making every day more and more and which accounts for David Fincher's ability to shoot with available light in very dark settings. There are some scenes in this movie that are literally illuminated with one bare light bulb! Try that with actual celluloid film stock and you'll understand what a modern wonder digital cameras really are.

Also frequently left out is any mention of the Oscar caliber editing of Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter or the stunning musical score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

But I mean seriously! Come on! We're talking about CINEMA here people. We're talking about an art form that is primarily VISUAL. Still there's a whole world of critics out there completely unequipped to write about cinema in any substantive way. All these people can do is tell you whether they "liked it" or not. And they have little to no ability to really tell you why.

I've even had a few heated discussions with friends who say naively "Well you're interested in those [technical] things because you make films and work in television." I find statements like that to be wildly ridiculous.

What else is a movie made of?

Aren't these departments and areas of the film-making process exactly what a movie is in the end? I'm interested in all those areas and achievements precisely because they are the reasons why a film is well made or not. They are largely the reasons why a film is "good" or "bad". And don't forget I included screenwriting in my list above of what makes Fincher's version so much better.

I continue to find it amazing that these negative reviewers basically just don't bother to deal with the film as a movie unto itself. They tie it again and again to the previous, inferior Swedish movie---which the knowledgeable critic should know was merely 2 parts of a 6 part made-for-TV mini-series in Sweden called MILLENNIUM. It is true the Swedish films were cut down a bit and then released in America as theatrical movies but their origin was in television and in my opinion the Swedish films look and sound like made for tv movies while Fincher's version looks amazing. Sounds amazing. Is amazing.

If you happened to read the book on some beach vacation back when it was first published or on an airplane flying someplace and you want to see the definitive film version then the only one to bother with is the vastly superior David Fincher film. Just my opinion. But then I've worked on real sets, put film in cameras, set up lights, written scripts, scored music for tv and film and edited an award winning short film. What would I possibly know about movies?

MAKING MOVIES

In the late summer of 2010 I decided that, after years of being a slightly successful indie music artist who made a steady stream of pocket change from the songs that I wrote and recorded, that I would like to return to making films---as I had done in my childhood.

Movies had always fascinated me---the ability to shoot something totally out of order and put it together and tell a story was endlessly interesting to me. So with that in mind I did a great deal of research on the latest camera technology and, in short, quickly was won over by the revolution then happening (and now continuing) in the realm of HDSLR still cameras which also featured amazing video technology.

I snapped up a Canon 550D or if you prefer the Rebel T2i as it is sometimes known---and then went looking for good prime lenses to shoot some tests. I wrote a script which none of my friends or acquaintances wanted to have anything to do with (although they were encouraging) and then I threw out that script but kept the core idea and ended up shooting a 3 minute short that was never intended for the festival circuit or even to be seen by very many people.

I just wanted to reacquaint myself with what it felt like to light a scene, set up a tripod, choose an appropriate lens and then shoot something, move on and shoot more and then put it all together in Final Cut Pro and maybe score some music for the track. All of that I eventually did. And it was hard---and also a huge amount of fun.

That little experimental film became THE MAN IN 813 and has gone on to become an official selection of several U.S. film festivals including the rather prestigious (Washington) DC Shorts Film Festival. It was chosen from 1,200 submissions to be among 145 films shown in September 2011. The film also went on to win Outstanding Local Film at that festival, something I never dreamed of happening.

Now I'm getting ready for the release of my second short GO WITH THE FLOW about a guy named Parker Krendall---whose girlfriend has just been visited by "Aunt Flo". As the film opens she is leaving a somewhat angry message on Parker's answering machine saying, "I only wish you men knew what it was like!" Shortly after that Parker's nose begins to bleed. And bleed. And bleed some more.

The full short will be out in January 2012.

"AMERICAN PSYCHO" REVISITED

I watched "American Psycho" last night on blu ray. Hadn't seen it in years. The quality was amazing. Sound was excellent.

I actually think this film is a near masterpiece. It was much, much funnier than I had remembered (time has increased it's humor). It's basically a put down of the excessive decade of Reagan and the '80's and all the crazy clothes and big hair etc. There's much black comedy--yuppies comparing their business cards---the paper texture, the color, the fonts, the engraving...

Later after Patrick Bateman (a very hot Christian Bale) has killed Paul Allen (a very moist Jared Leto) with an axe in his all-white apartment without getting a single drop of blood on the walls---he sneaks into Allen's apartment to try to make it look like he's gone away out of town...when he first enters, Bale's breathy voice over says something like, "When I first entered Paul's apartment there was a moment of abject terror---as I realized his place was much nicer than mine and has a better view..." That made me laugh out loud. It's that kind of humor all the way through.

It wasn't nearly as bloody as I had thought and what there is of that is so tempered by the amusing dialog that it's not very bothersome. It's definitely NOT a horror film because the "horror" elements are so tongue and cheek. The scenes of a very naked Christian Bale running down the hallway of his condo chasing a hooker with a chainsaw are so nutty that they're actually funny.

It was directed by a woman...so that gives it a feminist vibe that I don't think a male could have achieved. And Christian Bale is VERY hot in this movie walking around in his tightie-whities. He's a guy who is obsessed with his physical appearance so there is much skin to take in.

The voice over at the beginning with him showering while you hear him explaining his unbelievably complex morning face-cleansing regimen is hysterical. The music really took me back too---as Bale's character is obsessed with Phil Collins, Huey Lewis and the News and Whitney Houston and apparently in the book there is an entire chapter devoted to each artist! But the music and the club scenes etc really brought back the 1980's.

It's clever and dark and funny. I could even imagine Stanley Kubrick doing something similar with that kind of material.

SHIT IS EASY...PERFECTION IS HARD

So after about 3 months of diddling around with a new track called "8 MINUTES TO ORBIT" it still didn't sound right to me this afternoon when I sat down to listen again to my last mix. Frustrating to say the least.

Every time I work on a track I always do a mix whether I think it's done or not. I don't want to have to crank up the computer and load software and all that stuff later on just to check out where I'm at with a tune. So... I listened off the Alesis Masterlink that I use for recording final mixdowns and even at 96khz sampling rate---things were just not right. This was not a technology problem. It was a musical one.

Finally it dawned on me that I had become so enamoured with the SOUNDS that I used on this track that I had neglected to obey the general rules of making techno-trance-electronica (whatever that is) which is to say that I really wasn't hearing a solid KICK and a definite SNARE in the mix. One would think that someone with my experience in recording (nearly 30 years) would have noticed this earlier and perhaps I did and my mind just didn't care at that point in the process. I was going for something "different" this time out anyway and the lack of the usual supporting players (kick and snare) gave the effort a vibe that I was not used to. I mistakenly thought that was a good thing. It was not. Rules are rules for a reason. The universe does not change just because I might want it to.

Well, I spent the afternoon judiciously, carefully, with great attention to delicacy---adding a kick overdub to the drum tracks that were already there. The hardest part of that process is really, really making sure that the new kick overdub is EXACTLY PRECISELY lined up with what's already there---otherwise you get a weird doubling effect that is undesireable in this kind of music.

Then I added a snare from my arsenal of Roland 808 samples and even though it sounded vaguely "cheap" at first---I quickly decided that it was perfect because the rest of "8 MINUTES TO ORBIT" sounds "expensive" if you get my drift. That cheap little "pppsssht" snare that I used was great up against the gigantic hugeness of the rest of the track. So it seems to be working.

Why I am telling you this? Because you're a fan of mine. Eventually you will hear this track. And I wanted you to know that I'm making it as PERFECT as I possibly can. I'm a big believer in trying to perfect things for my fans--although I haven't always lived up to it. But this time I won't stop until this track is shere awesomeness and it is already very close.

It's funny how, when you really start to get everything right in a mix, you begin to hear the whole work in a new way. Even after thousands of listens---when the mix clicks---magic happens. And magic is what I'm after. Nothing less.

LET IT SNOW

So amazingly enough it snowed all day long on Saturday. Unfortunately in the city of Washington, DC where I live it just barely dusted the ground. We just haven't had enough cold around to lower temperatures on the streets to point where the snow will stick well. Still it was beautiful to watch it come down---sometimes quite heavily.

I have a feeling in my gut that DC is in for some serious snow this winter. It's a bit unusual for us to have any snow before Christmas but it's already happened and I think there will be much more to come. By spring I'll probably be begging for it to stop.

Continued recording over the weekend. With the weather all cold and wet it was perfect for staying in, clamping headphones on my ears and working on mixes for some of the new tracks that are underway.

Watched No Country For Old Men again on blu ray this time. Those Cohen brothers know how to put a good movie together. Thoroughly entertaining film but very violent.

BECOMING MYSELF: NO MORE FAKE BAND NAMES

So after something like 7 years of being with San Fran label INgrooves---I've decided that it's time to move on and what's more it's time to be myself instead of Delphinium Blue. Feels good actually.

Of course, leaving your label for greener pastures is also traumatic. I went from peacefully working on new tracks to suddenly having to also deal with a fucking ton of business matters. ASCAP. Copyrights. Licensing. Bank accounts. Email. Photo galleries. Audio files. Promotions. It's enough to make an indie rock star's brain hurt.

I DO have some really good news for the fans however---This weekend I will be emailing everybody to announce that I'm giving away really high quality 320kbps mp3 files of all the tracks on my best selling album THE SECRET LIFE OF BOYS (which is also the new name of this blog and NO I do not intend any slight against the ladies).

MOVIES & MUSIC

Hey people. What's going on?

I've been busy working on all kinds of projects. Some of you might know that I have a serious interest in movies - as in writing and directing them some day. I'd love to make a little indie-feature and take it around to festivals and do all that film biz stuff. So I've been writing a bunch of screenplays over the last several years. There are now 5 feature scripts in various stages of "development". When I get tired of one I just go back to one of the others and work on that for a while. It's fun and it's creative and it's difficult. It's hard making something that's really a plan for a 2 hour movie. Each of these scripts is approximately 120 pages in length, give or take a few, so it takes a lot of organizing and deleting and starting over and I actually enjoy all of that frustrating stuff. Plus it gives me a break from music, which I need sometimes. But...

Having said all that: I am back working on a new music project. The debate right now is over whether this will be a full length album or a Mini-album (they used to call them EPs). The songs are all done so I'm kind of trying to figure out which ones to release. Looking for groups of songs that work well together - that kind of thing. Fun. But whatever it turns into - IT will be out in the spring.

By the way: if you haven't seen The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - I highly recommend it. Amazing movie by director David Fincher - who is an incredibly talented guy. The film is long but highly original, has great acting (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) and really stunning special effects which are actually there to help tell the story instead of stick out like a sore thumb. I hate movies where you're obviously just meant to swoon over the effects instead of getting involved in a legit storyline. This is a great film. One of the best I've seen in a long, long time.

Okay. Enough rambling. It's Friday afternoon. I'm at home trying to decide whether to go out clubbing tonight or stay in and work. At this moment the clubbing thing is winning out.

CINEMATIC, AMBIENT TRACKS

hello blue people.

i have had the most horrid sinus infection going on for the last week. i mean every single day my head is throbbing and my teeth are aching. yes teeth. if you've never had a sinus attack then you do not know what real pain is. it fucking hurts big time.

anyway in order to squelch the misery i have been staying up late, drinking large amounts of cheap vodka which does the trick of getting rid of the aching and has the secondary effect of causing me to want to write some new music. so i've been working on new tracks.

hope to have something out in spring 09.

6 "songs" are complete already (as of today). i put quotes around the word songs because none of these tracks has vocals really. i'm sick of writing pop songs. i find instrumental music to be much more open and interesting. i can do what i want on instrumentals and i don't have to sing and pretend to be streisand...

also these tracks are, for the most part, kind of laid back - something else that i like. i enjoy cinematic, ambient kinds of things and i think this new album (is that what it really is?) will head in that sort of direction.

hope you are all well. i'm taking some time off from working in television (my day job) so that i can rest and drink and go out to the clubs. i could have made something up - but that's the truth.

THE SECRET LIFE OF BOYS Now On CD

In 2003 I wrote my first full length album from scratch.

I called it:
THE SECRET LIFE OF BOYS which was a veiled reference to my own then secret and quite wild life in the gay clubs of Washington, DC.

Well, that album - which some say is still my best ever - has been picked up for re-release as a physical CD by the fine people at Amazon.com. God bless them and WOW it's weird how the record business is changing.

By the way - by "physical" I mean a real CD that you can hold in your hands. Artwork. Liner notes. That kind of thing.

It's dedicated to my former manager Eddie Parsons who is connected to that record in my mind in a way that can not be simply forgotten. I met him when it was first being promoted by my label INgrooves and being released on iTunes...so when I think of that first project I always think of him. Fun times...believe me.

Anyway I didn't just turn in an old master for this project. Instead I had an amazing time going back to the original mixdowns which had been done on what was then the state of the art - DAT (Digital Audio Tape) at 16bit 44.1kHz resolution. This is how all studio work was done in those days. Since then much better recording formats have arisen. So...

Those original tracks were put into an Alesis Masterlink system - which uprezes them to 24bit 96kHz resolution and allows a level of compression and EQ that was previously unheard of. In other words these tracks were tweaked quite a bit. I got to do the stuff I had wanted to do back when I first recorded these songs.

The end result is really a new release of my first songs and instrumentals that literally sounds far better than they first did years ago. The difference is astounding.

If you're a Delphinium Blue fan then this is a release you should have on CD for 3 reasons: it's the first album ever, it's been remastered big time and it sounds way better than those crappy compressed downloads at iTunes. Listening to "Boy Seventeen" off CD is so much better than the download version that it's something you have to hear to believe. There really is no comparison.

Anyway sorry to ramble on - but I'm quite proud of this record and how well it holds up in 2008.

NEW TRACKS COMETH

Hello Blue People: Love and Peace to you all.

It's been a long dark time since I last wrote but change is a-comin' and I'm back at work on a new album that I believe I mentioned some months ago. In any event, it's real and it's being tweaked as I write this. No more bars for me. No more bad influences. I want to work. I want to be productive. I'm sorry for being bad. Please, don't spank me. I'm just that way...

Sometimes we get lost and I think I have been for the last several months (years, decades) whatever...anyway I feel like making music again and I'm also feverishly editing several music videos that I hope to have out later this summer. SO...this is a short message, yes. Just to say 'hello' and let you know I'm still breathing...and writing.

YES, A NEW ALBUM IS IN THE WORKS

Well, it's been quite a while since I've written anything on this blog of mine. I thought it was about time I get back to it.

By the way---thanks to the gazillions of fans out there in the big blue world who have signed up or on to the DB fan list. You guys are amazing. Thanks for the support and I hope you like the 12 tracks that you get in exchange for joining up. I have been so shocked at how many people are signing up each week. I try to write back to as many as I can to say a personal thanks but there have been so many lately that it's impossible to get back to every single one. Still I appreciate all of you hugely.

I've gotten a lot of emails lately from fans wondering if I'm dead or dying---I'm not. I'm quite alive and well and working on a new album.

Oops! I let that out of the bag didn't I? But what's a homosexual musical genius to do all winter long if not work on new material and anticipate dropping another load of tracks on the world sometime in the summer? And so THAT's what I've been doing. Working.

The next release---I can promise you---will be eclectic. By that I mean it will probably contain my widest ranging set of songs and tracks yet. I don't seem to be able to pin myself down to just one style. There are currently 22 tracks completed and more in production.

One of the ones I like the most is a re-working (not really a remix) of a track from StereoPornoGroove called "What Heterosexual Males Fear The Most" and I'm enjoying playing around with it again. I always liked the basic music in that one. It was originally recorded way, way back around 1999 in a basement studio in the Capitol Hill area of Washington, DC. I later did the mix that's on SPG and now I'm tinkering with it again---and changing it quite a bit. I will be giving it a new title I think. Something controversial maybe. Perhaps I'll call it "Straight Boys Aren't As Intelligent As Gay Boys"...but then again probably not.

NEW SONGS & JEREMY ENIGK

Been working on new material over the last month or so. Haven't written much. Sorry to you news junkies. Music doesn't always move quickly. And I'm in a bit of an experimental mood lately.

I can't really say when there will be another release. Although there is some tentative talk of doing some music videos and that sort of thing just to put a different spin on tracks that are already out there in the world.

There is an album's worth of new material that I could put out and might---but on the other hand I'm still fooling around with some of the newer songs and I like fooling around. I sometimes have trouble telling myself that things are done and that I need to move on. The fun for me is all that tinkering around and trying different things and then sometimes destroying 2 months of work and starting over. Fun. Fun. Fun.

I've discovered a singer that probably everyone in the world already knows about. I'm famous for not being up on current musical events---but I recently started really getting into a guy named Jeremy Enigk who used to be lead singer for emo band Sunny Day Real Estate. He has a relatively new album out called WORLD WAITS which, in my humble opinion, is just amazing. I can't stop playing it. It reminds me of when Coldplay came out with PARACHUTES and I couldn't turn it off. Anyway Jeremy's music is just absolutely beautiful. And frequently he reminds me vaguely of John Lennon. The arrangements are quite complex and the melodies are real as opposed to the monotony of much modern day pop music. His melodies are lilting and actually start in one place and go somewhere. Which is what a real melody should do.

Anyway in a world full of mind numbingly simple hip-hop trash and Britney Spears' pop shit---beauty is a rare commodity. Jeremy Enigk's music makes me feel BETTER. It improves my day. As opposed to forcing me to wallow in cheap sex or intentional ugliness.

I highly, highly recommend WORLD WAITS to anybody out there who still believes that music can be transcendant. This guy is a major talent and I hope he gains the audience and recognition he deserves.

APPLE TO RELEASE DB TRACKS IN 256KBPS ACC DRM FORMAT

Hello DB Fans,

In the next week or so, Delphinium Blue's music will be available in the iTunes music store in the new DRM-FREE format as part of Apple's new iTunes Plus Service.

This means DB albums and individual tracks will be sold in both Apple's standard 128kbps AAC DRM format and their new 256kbps ACC DRM FREE format.

The quality difference is substantial and if you have Delphinium Blue material that you want to upgrade to the new higher standard it's pretty easy to do. This is a big step for the digital music world and I hope you guys like the way the songs sound in the new improved format.

Greetings from DC (capitol of the U.S. of A.) where I am celebrating the release of "The Electronica Collection: 2003-2007".

And I DO mean c-e-l-e-brating! Do you people have any idea how much vodka has seeped through my weary brain in the last several days? I thought not.

Anyway, the record is dedicated to my ex-boyfriend Eddie Parsons who was an amazing manager and adviser (and who seems to be incapable of communication these days).

It came out on iTunes on Monday the 1st of Octber and is now out pretty much everywhere worldwide. If you're in Japan you can buy it. If you're in Germany you can pick up a copy. If you just so happen to live in Amsterdam it's totally available. So get it okay? I need to eat, plus it's really good music. Made by one person rather than a squabbling "group" of sex crazed bandmates. I've never been big on the whole band idea. I prefer art pretty much made by one human being if possible.

When it comes to making art I'm not very democratic. If you don't like that then you can make your own...

This record is a sort of greatest hits kind of thing and it has all my big electronica tracks from 2003 to the present. It's my way of celebrating the 5 years that I've been signed to INgrooves (the world's greatest record company and certainly the most forward thinking one).

A brief aside: INgrooves tracked me down in late 2002 (I think) and I hemmed and hawed (did I spell those words correctly) and finally signed the contract and sent them what became my first album The Secret Life of Boys---which came out on a new service called iTunes in 2003. INgrooves has been incredibly supportive all these years and has always let me put out whatever I wanted. Lately INgrooves has become home to Thomas Dolby (one of my idols), Jody Whatley, The Crystal Method and Theivery Corporation (who also live here in Washington). They've also put out remixes from one of my pals in Baltimore---Ultra Nate (who I shared a stage with back in 2004).

Enough rambling. Just wanted to say a very gay "hello" to you all (yes even you worried straight boys) wherever you are in the world. If you're a fan then you should really like this new record. Everything was totally remastered. I could actually hear things in these recordings that I hadn't heard since I originally produced them. All the tracks were remastered through state of the art digital equipment which allows for a level of detail that wasn't possible when many of them were first released.

I SAW A FILM TODAY OH BOY

Hello Blue People. I have been busy putting the final touches on a retrospective release called "The Electronica Collection 2003-2007". This 16 track album contains the most important Delphinium Blue tracks from the last 5 years, plus one new cut: a bonus club remix of "Boy Seventeen" which is nearly 9 minutes in length. INgrooves has set a release date of October 8th.

In other matters---I happened to rent a really amazing film last night from the local video store here in the Dupont Circle area of DC where I live. The movie is called "Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer". I had read something about it back when it first came out but I had never seen it. I was absolutely blown away. I highly recommend it. It's a weird, beautiful movie of the sort that is rarely ever made---and never by Hollywood. Although it was DISTRIBUTED by Dreamworks!

It's set in 18th century Paris---and concerns a young man who is born with a super-human sense of smell. Literally. He can smell everything in great, great detail. Like an animal. And from this central idea comes a fascinating story---the end of which you will never be able to predict. Suffice it to say that the movie grabs and holds your attention from start to finish. Dustin Hoffman and Alan Rickman have supporting roles but the main character is played by a lovely young thing by the name of Ben Wishaw. This kid is a Meryl Streep-level talent. They should just go ahead and give him a couple of Oscars and get it over with because he's that good.

The director is Tom Tykwer who made "Run Lola Run" which is also a very cool film. But this one is amazing. Sometimes hard to watch and at other times so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. And Mr. T also composed the music---which is haunting and atmospheric to say the least. Anyway, if you want to see something really cool rent this or buy it like I'm going to.

Incidentally, upon doing a little research I discovered that "Perfume" was deemed almost unreleasable here in the U.S.---and made only a couple million dollars---but it grossed over $100 million in Europe and the rest of the world.

What the fuck is wrong with Americans?

We do love our football, guns and Bibles and we really like our entertainment dumb and boorish. Anything that's really beautiful or which isn't wrapped up with a neat ending or moral isn't something we're interested in. Too bad because the rest of the world just keeps progressing along nicely without our approval. A 100$ million gross ought to tell you something. It ought to tell you that a whole lot of people found this film to be very engrossing. That's a pretty impressive haul if you ask me.

Stella Parsons' Remix of Boy Seventeen Coming This Fall

Hello to all you DB fans around the world.

Some good news on the music front: there is an amazing new version of "Boy Seventeen" also known as "Stella Parsons' Remix" scheduled for release sometime in the autumn. The original version of this song remains my most popular and I get no end of requests for a more up tempo version.

So, I am happy to announce that a true dance remix (at 140 bpm) has now been accomplished. It runs just under 9 minutes! So DJ's get ready. "Boy Seventeen" returns to dance floors all over the world this fall.

The remixed "B17" track will most likely be released on a new album ( a greatest hits kind of thing) to be called "The Electronica Collection 2003 - 2007". It will contain 16 tracks---all recorded since I signed with INgrooves. Everything is being remastered and so far it sounds amazing. I can hear things in the original tracks that I couldn't hear before. Aint technology grand?

I won't ramble on. But I wanted to let the faithful know that a collection of the very best electronica tracks from my short career are on their way. You'll be able to get this album either as a physical CD or as a digital release---or both. Stay tuned for more details.

Blue-people. Listen up. A great science fiction movie has been made. It's called SUNSHINE and you need to see it.

I had been reading about this movie for over a year and a half and finally got to see it last night.

All I can say is "Wow!"

Cillian Murphy (pictured in this publicity shot) is the star and the film is jaw-dropping. I sat through the whole thing with my eyes about to pop out of my head. Go see it.

Yesterday was Gay Pride parade day here in DC and the queens were out in full force. I shot this photo from my balcony and also recorded some audio from the craziness down on P Street. I think I might use the audio on future songs etc...

Plans are underway to release DB's first album The Secret Life of Boys as a CD sometime soon. The album has been available at iTunes as downloads for a long time but Amazon is offering to sell it through their on-line store and it will be available through others as well. More on that when we know exactly when that's happening.

DB DOES LICENSING DEAL WITH NOKIA

Hello Bluish People The World Over,

Thanks to everyone who sent birthday hellos today. I am still very young so don't even start wondering about my actual age. Just suffice it to say that it was really nice to get over 30 messages this morning just from email alone. I didn't know you guys cared so much.

Now on to other things: it is SO nice to occasionally make some serious money in the music business.

With that in mind, I am happy to report that thanks to my wonderful label INgrooves (in San Fran) I was recently offered a licensing deal with the world's largest cell phone company NOKIA for use of the track "New World Coming" on a new phone that they are releasing all over Europe and Asia.

No---this is not a ringtone. It's the whole track in stereo. This phone evidentally takes pictures, does phone stuff and plays audio files like an iPod. Anyway if you want to hear the track that NOKIA chose (and it's one of my favorites) you can check out Delphinium Blue at iTunes. "New World Coming" appears on the album The Secret Life of Boys.

First off - THANKS again to former MTV VJ Adam Curry who out-of-the blue decided to play a track from the "Stereo Porno Groove" album on his massively popular "Daily Source Code" show today. I love that man! He played "California" last summer and helped a lot of people find that song who probably wouldn't have otherwise. "Beautiful" - the track he played today - was actually written for a drag queen bar tender here in DC believe it or not - years ago. I won't go into detail but JC if you're out there YOU know who you are!

Secondly - "SARA" has finally been released (not yet at iTunes although it should appear there any day now). But the new single is for sale at the huge online store E-MUSIC and a few other smaller services like TRACKITDOWN. It will soon be available virtually everywhere that music is sold online. I know I've been yapping about iTunes for months. The song was kind of held up by Apple (it's a long story) but it really is about to be released at the world's biggest on-line music store so for those of you who prefer iTunes - hang in there, it's coming.

WAIT A MINUTE BABY ("SARA" COMETH)

My Dearest Blue Boys & Girls,

I can not thank you all enough for the untold number of emails regarding "Sara".

I know that for a very long time I've been updating you (seemingly endlessly) about the new single. And I truly feel like the boy who cried (okay maybe screamed) wolf. But it really is on it's way. I swear to God. Honestly. What can I say? It really, really is very close to being released...

The master recording was turned in to my amazing record company INgrooves (in San Francisco) back around the middle of January. And yesterday I had a fairly lengthy chat with my A&R rep (I'll call her Ms. T) and was told that the record will be out on iTunes possibly this very week but certainly within the next several weeks. So hang in there. It's literally going to happen any day now.

The bottom line is that it's very close and I think you're all gonna love it. It's going to have been well worth the wait. I wish I could have been more accurate in giving out a release date but Apple doesn't really do that unless you're Madonna. And I'm not. So I just get kind of a ball-park idea of the date. I try my best to keep you guys up to date and I SO appreciate everyone who has written (starting many months ago) asking about the release. I have been stunned by the enthusiasm.

In the meantime - if you haven't clicked on the "SARA" EXCERPT LINK on the main page of the official web site you should - if you want to hear what it sounds like. INTERVIEW WITH A MIDDLE CLASS ROCK STAR

As I write this it is Sunday afternoon February 18th at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Snow is coming down in heavy, torrential waves, blasting sideways by my 8th floor balcony, adding a fresh coat of white to the ice and slush that fell last week and already clogs up the gutters and sidewalks of P Street down below. Didn't that sound poetic? No? Well, it's beautiful to look at while it's coming down...

Anyway - did you guys see Prince on the SuperBowl? All I can say is "WOW"! There is absolutely no one working in music today who can do everything he does and do it so very, very well. Singing, playing, dancing - and in the pouring rain no less. Purple Rain indeed.

A SUPER PURPLE BOWL

It's Super Bowl Sunday - (I'm calling it A Super Purple Bowl) and normally I could not possibly be any less interested. I have never watched a football game (or any sporting event) ever in my entire life - I totally don't get the appeal at all - and I don't intend to start getting it today.

HOWEVER - the halftime show is whole 'nother matter - what with Prince handling the procedings. So - yes - I will be tuning in to at least take in the Purple One live this evening.

The last time I saw a live performance of his was a few years ago when he was inducted into the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame and his show was fucking unbelievable. He was singing, playing lead guitar, dancing all over the stage, tipping the mic stand all over the place and generally just tearing up the stage. Awesome is by no means too heavy a word to describe that show. I just sat there watching him with my mouth hanging open in disbelief. I hope for a repeat today.

"SARA" MASTER DELIVERED TO iTUNES

I am very happy to report that - after a year of working on it - my newest single "Sara" has gone to INgrooves - my label in San Francisco. It's now out of my hands.

The early response from those few fans, radio people and various DJs here in DC who have heard the song has been very upbeat. I'm thrilled that the reaction has been as big and positive as it has.

My A&R rep Jennifer Tusa has been extremely supportive of this track and for that I am so grateful. When I told the label about the song she instantly wrote me an email saying "we have to get this out ASAP!" INgrooves in general has always been so easy to work with and so supportive. They let me do my own thing and when I have something ready to be released it's just a simple matter of contacting them and getting the track into the pipeline - so to speak.

Now that the record is out of my hands - it's nervous time. Whenever I finally finish a new record and let go of it I immediately start worrying that I didn't do everything as well as I could have. But in this case I think the fans are going to be pretty much blown away. This track took a year of my life.

I actually started it in a basement apartment in Georgetown working on some fairly old equipment. All of the major instrument and vocal tracks were laid down there.Then I moved to a new place in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC and continued to do overdubs and eventually the mixing - but this time on brand new computers, new interfaces and new software. No tape was involved at all in any way. This is totally a 100% digital project. And it sounds like it! I then bought new digital mastering equipment to do the final copies on and that was a lot of fun actually - for the first time. Mastering has always been painful in the past but now I really am set up quite well for that part of the process. The final mix sounds awesome so I hope you will all like it.

Anyway the audio files and artwork etc have all been sent to INgrooves and they are making plans to release it and promote it. It's hard to know the exact date that Apple will put it up live but if we hear anything at all we'll let everyone know via the blog and also emails out to all the fans who are on the fan list. I would estimate that "Sara" will be available within a few weeks.

HAPPY NEW YEAR - HAVE A GAY OLD TIME!

Happy New Year to all you fabulous blue people everywhere!

I hope you're all well and I hope you didn't over-do-it on New Year's Eve. I was actually scheduled to take in the last few hours of 2006 with that beautiful Dutchboy I mentioned in my previous post - but we both came to our senses and stayed in, got lots of sleep, and saved money, etc. etc. But never fear - this coming weekend I'm taking Mr. Amsterdam with me to an amazing last ditch party in Reston, VA - with a house full of rich, gay men who know how to eat, drink and be merry (and who keep celebrating the holidays even when the general festivities are clearly over for most people). And in a way that straight people can only dream about. A lovely, decadent evening WILL be had by all I promise.

On the musical front: "Sara" is done and final preparations are being made to release it. Both to YOU the listener and to radio.

Then I will be working on preps for a live show. I'm being badgered to death by my friend Mr. Jimi Jam here in DC to do some live shows and I guess I should. It's been a while since I was on a stage and I'm kind of getting in the mood to sing for you fags...and assorted breeders!

Then, if I am still standing, I hope to complete a couple of new singles by summer and get those out and then do a new, ambient, instrumental album by Fall. My cup runneth over. But then that's what cups should do...

MIXING "SARA" THIS WEEKEND

It's Sunday afternoon and I'm getting ready to go see "The Queen" - which you might think is a movie about my life but actually it's about Queen Elizabeth and it's getting raves so I'll let you know later whether it's any good or not...

Been working my ass off trying to finish "Sara" - now that we have Stevie Nicks' persmission to release it. I've made about a thousand mixes of it but I believe I've finally got the definitive version.

The plan is to send it to radio in January and get it out as an exclusive iTunes track around that same time. This song has taken a lot of my energy over the last year so I hope everyone likes it. So far the reaction of friends and DJs here in DC has been highly enthusiastic. Everytime I preview a new mix of the song someone will ask if they can have the CD. And I think there are a few demo copies floating around that really shouldn't be. You'll get to hear the real thing soon enough. Think of it as my New Year's present to all my loyal fans.

Hi Blue Peeps!

To my utmost shock and delight - radio god J-Ho at SIRIUS Radio's OutQ channel continues to spin my current single "Joy". The track is at #13 this week - above Sir Elton and Indigo Girls and snapping close at the heals of Scissor Sisters. To say it's an absolute honor to be in such esteemed company is a huge understatement. All of these artists are heroes of mine so I could not possibly be happier.

Many thanks go out to Jeremy Hovies (J-Ho) for playing the song on his shows and helping to introduce Delphinium Blue to an audience that I have long dreamed of reaching. That is: my gay brothers and sisters all over the world. "Joy" is being played on a couple of dozen large college stations and a handful of commercial ones but the station I'm most thrilled and proud to be played on is SIRIUS OutQ and Jeremy is, needless to say, now on my Coolest-People-In-The-World list.

By the way: the next single to be released to radio is likely going to be my electronica remake of Stevie Nicks' Fleetwood Mac classic "Sara". Early demos of this track have just gotten a hugely supportive response from friends and fans. I originally recorded it a year ago and have performed it live once - but there was a licensing hold up regarding it's release which has now been solved to everyone's satisfaction. I am currently mixing the final master for "Sara" and if all goes well it will show up at iTunes in January and we'll submit it to our radio friends just after Christmas. GO SEE "THE ILLUSIONIST"

Saw "The Illusionist" this afteroon and loved it.

The most romantic movie I've seen in a long time. It's getting great reviews from all the critics that I generally trust and mixed ones from some of the others. I can not imagine why it's getting mixed anything! Except that modern audiences might need a quick fix of aliens, car crashes and vulgar sex - which this film doesn't have.

On the other hand if you like beautiful (as in Vienna) movies with characters in period costumes and lots of intrigue then you'll love this. Plus, I'd get down on my hands and knees for Edward Norton. In a split second. He's SO hot and SO not-ordinary. He's the kind of guy I'd marry. And take home to mother.

Oh, My God! I think I've wet myself! The new Scissor Sisters single "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" (co-written by Jake Shears and Elton John) is out on iTunes and I can not stop playing it over and over again. If you can imagine awesome, old-school Elton mixed with vintage BeeGees with a slathering of Pet Shop Boys and maybe a little sprinkle of ABBA then you'll have the right idea. This fucker is absolutely addictive. I really have not been able to stop playing it. The full album is out in the U.S. September 26th. I can not fucking wait.

How do you like this weird pic of me with the DC skyline behind me? It's a trick. It's a special effect. Don't believe what you see. I don't believe half of what I make. And I made that photo!

Uhm - ok, so I've been absent from this blog because I was STILL working just a little bit more on the third album STEREO PORNO GROOVE - even though 5 of the tracks from the album were already out on various sites.

So - now - finally - the whole project is in the hands of INgrooves - my label in San Fran. They tell me it should reach iTunes within a few weeks. So hang in there because it's really a good record. I love listening to it and the reaction so far to the 5 tracks already floating around in the world has been awesome.

Anyway - how the hell are you? Long time. Yeah - well I've been busy. While putting out the new album I've also been working on a lot of radio stuff. It appears that perhaps the wonderful people at SIRIUS OutQ might be getting ready to play some of my stuff. There's a great DJ there (who I listen to every chance I get) who's on late at night - Jeremy Hovies - and we sent him some stuff and are waiting for him to raise his septor and grant us airplay. Honestly the folks at SIRIUS are very cool and were SOOOOOO nice to me last year - playing "Boy Seventeen" and "Obscene". I ended up on their Mid-Year Top 100 Artists List which was a huge honor. Being on there with Scissor Sisters and Elton John was rather freaky but so very, very appreciated.

So, ok that's the latest. I'd like to be writing new music but the 3rd album isn't even out yet so...

Hi blue boys & girls.

Just updated my studio with a whole truck load of new plug-ins and a very high end E-MU digital audio card that I'm using exclusively for mastering tracks on the new album.

What? You thought the album was done because there are already 5 tracks up at the Podsafe Music Network? Or maybe because former MTV vj and podcast-genius Adam Curry is already playing "California" - as are a slew of radio stations around the world?

Well, guess again. I'm still fiddling around with compression and limiting and nipping and tucking a phrase here and there trying to make it the best it can be. A number of my close friends who have heard the whole thing think it's the most commercial set to date. The entire full length 14 track album titled "Stereo Porno Groove" should be out at iTunes by end of summer. For now check out the 5 new tracks already up and available for sale at PMN. ADAM CURRY DIGS "CALIFORNIA"

An as yet unreleased track from the forth coming third Delphinium Blue album has been aired (somewhat early) by former MTV vj Adam Curry on his extremely popular and successful podcast show Daily Source Code.

Check show 414.

The track "California" was originally leaked to podcasters who frequent the online site Podsafe Music Network. Podcaster Brent Bradley - who had run the song on his own Podshow Radio program and a Delphinium Blue fan if ever there was one - forwarded the song to Mr. Curry who then played it on today's show.

And speaking of the new album - there are a number of on-line music sites clamoring to be the first to offer the new tracks. The album is now completely finished, as is the artwork and notes. We will unveil the album cover soon and a full song list as well.

The tracks are being sent to DB's A&R rep Jennifer Tusa at our label INgrooves next week and then it goes into the pipeline that eventually will land it at iTunes, Napster, Yahoo, Rhapsody and many other services.

What's cool is that some of the tracks may go on sale earlier than the full iTunes versions do - on other, smaller sites. Check back later for more ongoing developments. Whatever happens, this album looks to be the most pop-oriented yet - with 14 tracks almost all of which are complete songs as opposed to instrumentals. More than half of the record is seriously up-tempo and the rest is gorgeous and slower.

DC GAY PRIDE? NEITHER GAY NOR LOCAL

CAPITAL PRIDE DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT LOCAL ARTISTS (unless you're a lip-synching drag queen) AND SEEMS TO PREFER NON-GAY ACTS

Wassup? For the zillions of fans out there in the local DC area who have emailed or called (at least two dozen a day for the last month!) - inquiring about the DC Pride show - I hate to tell you this but the cutting edge organizers of Capital Pride don't like Delphinium Blue enough to put me on stage this year.

For that matter they didn't see any reason to even let me know officially that I'm not wanted. They're bigshots you see. And to them I don't matter. Dinosaurs like Ce Ce Peniston matter - but not me. The organizers ask artists to fill out an application - which little old me dutifully did - but they apparently saw no reason to respond in turn. And frankly that's just...uh...well, unprofessional.

So, I'm NOT planning to do the show for the simple reason that the Capital Pride people have not asked me. And as I mentioned, they didn't have the decency or courtesy to respond to our emails or a letter we sent inquiring about what was going on. I mean, is a simple response saying: "You suck" THAT difficult? I think not.

And speaking of that great gay, male passtime - sucking: I guess that I'm just too gay, too male and well damn it - I actually live in Washington, DC! So, of course I wouldn't be of interest to the DC Pride folks. They want heterosexual female acts who don't live in the local area. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

I mentioned 2 of the other headliners - Kimberly Locke and Rachel Panay - the other night to a crowd of gay men at 30 Degrees and no one knew who either of them was! No one. On the other hand a lot of these same gay men own my music and play Delphinium Blue tracks on their iPods every day.

We have been approached (interestingly enough) by one the DC area's largest newspapers about our reaction to being left off the performer list. Evidentally we are not the only disgruntled act out there. And I am considering whether to talk about it further. But I certainly think that an act like Delphinium Blue with a growing audience around the world, 2 full albums out on INgrooves in San Francisco, tons of world wide radio play and which is based in DC's own Dupont Circle ought to be given a paltry 5 or 10 minutes on stage. Is that too much to ask?

Apparently Whitman-Walker Clinic and Capital Pride have decided that DC artists are not important to the show. They are instead favoring an all-female group of headliners - most of whom ARE NOT FROM DC. This event gets more and more corporate every year. Their idea of being current and hip is...oh my God...Thelma Houston! Yeah, Thelma. God bless her but I thought it was DC's Pride Festival? But then I actually live here and make music here and I won't be appearing - so I'm not sure what those geniuses at Whitman Walker are thinking. But then WW has been in a state of financial and managerial disaster for a while now so this weird exclusion of DC artists is not really surprising.

Another point: does it matter whether any of these headliners are actually GAY? I know I am. Really. But I'm not so sure about Thelma. Or Ce Ce.

In closing - I'm sorry the fine people at DC Pride don't like Delphinium Blue as much as you do - or enough to communicate professionally. I know I WON'T be wasting my time at a Pride show featuring a slew of non-gay, non-DC artists on June 11th.

I absolutely recommend to all my fans: don't even bother with Pride this year. How proud can we be when local gay artists are excluded and hetero-females are the only headliners?

THE NEW ALBUM GETS BIGGER

Just so you all know - I've been absent from writing largely because I've been writing! Music that is. Not blogs. Work on the new album is progressing at a furious pace. That happens when you don't go out and you stay away from the booze and other unhealthy substances.

There are currently 36 tracks up for consideration for the new record (more than any other record I've worked on) which has grown a great deal since 3 months ago when I thought it would just be an EP. This one is really going to be cool: a wide variety of material, something for every taste I think. Overall it's very 1980's - which is the era I love best I suppose. After Prince came and went there really wasn't anything new in music as far as I'm concerned. And there still hasn't been. Rap is, for the most part, shit. I'm interested in M - U - S - I - C not people mumbling boring ebonic ugliness over a premanufactured drum machine loop. So the '80's are my musical jumping off point. I love Depeche, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Boy George, New Order, George Michael, Prince, Madonna and all those great artists and my new album is very much influenced by them.

A NEW ALBUM ON THE WAY FOR 2006

Hello Dear Blue Ones,

This is my kitten, Stella. When I'm asleep and she's jumping on me trying to get me to give her some food I just yell out "Stella-Groove"! - because I guess I've seen that movie "How Stella Got Ger Groove Back". It was pretty good by the way.

I mean think about it - I'm unconscious and a small, female cat (who is very, very brave and who has a huge amount of personality) pounces on me at 2am and scares the living shit out of me - and I sit straight up in bed and scream like the absolute fag that I am, "Stella Groove! God Damn it! Will you just wait till I get the fuck up please?"

And she just looks at me quite ordinarily as if to say, "Ok sure - I was just testing to see if I could get your ass up to get me some food a little earlier than usual." That's really what her expression makes me think of.

Enough about Stella. I'm continuing to master, edit and prep a new Delphinium Blue release. At this point it looks like it will be a full album and who knows - I might surpass my previous all time high for one release of 12 tracks and put out a few more than that this time. We'll see.

Many of these tracks will be totally new to everyone. Some of them are old tracks that have been completely reworked or remastered at the least. Some of them are former DARKANGELES tracks (that was the name of my previous incarnation) but they have all been brought up to modern day, pristine, digital specs. In fact, when I listen to the new versions I hear details that I hadn't noticed in a long, long time.

The reason for including DARKANGELES tracks is simply that lots and lots of people remember them from MP3.com and have asked about how to buy them. And the simple truth is that they have not been available. But I hope to get that problem solved soon. For instance, an old but totally relevant track - "StereoPornoGroove" is something I actually recorded back in the 1990's and I've had no end of requests for that track since then. That will definitely be on this new release and it sounds absolutely awesome for those of you who have been waiting.

I have set a self imposed deadline of May 1, 2006 to be finished with the new record and have the masters and artwork in the mail out to San Fran to the wonderful people at INgrooves. After that it will be enocoded into Apple's proprietary format (and many others) and distributed to the better on line music stores worldwide. INgrooves will let me know when it's really out and available and I will email everybody at that point. If you're not on my mailing list for updates then go to the official site at www.bluemusiconline.com and sign up and I'll let you know as soon as we get the word from INgrooves and iTunes.

Trust me - you're gonna love this record. It's quirky, highly melodic and it has a lot of uptempo stuff as well as some choice down tempo tear jerkers. Plus one song about a gay serial killer. I can't wait for you to hear it.

A SONG FOR THE EX

I've finally gotten satiated with the bars and started staying home more - working on new music and other related projects.

And I'm SO proud of myself for resisting temptation that tonight I will probably reward myself by going out and giving in to it a bit. I am feeling quite smug that I didn't spend every single night of this past week with my ass plopped on a bar stool. And when I look back over the week and read my own personal "book" (which is an accounting of every single music and promotional thing that I accomplished) I have to feel proud and satisfied. I am one hell of a workaholic. I would gladly put my work ethic up against anyone else's on this Earth. When I get going there aint no holding me back...

And speaking of music - I'm doing a whole bunch of music-related things all at once these days:
I'm just about to release "Joy" to radio and that is a very big undertaking that is costing me some serious cash but which will return dividends later. Secondly, I am compiling, digitally editing and mastering already completed recordings in preparation for a new release tentatively titled "California". Whether this will be a full album or another EP is up in the air. And I am also back writing brand new music that no one has yet heard. So, it's kind of round and round from one aspect to the next.

I spent one night this last week doing nothing but writing lyrics - which is unusual for me. I almost always work up the music first and then do lyrics. But I want to stretch and do things in strange new ways so that was a part of doing it differently. At least for me. And I enjoyed it. I got a little upset at one point writing a lyric about my ex-boyfriend Eddie. He used to complain that I never wrote any songs about him - but I have now. And it's a weeper.

In any case, it's wonderful to be back in the music biz after being out for several months during my recent move from Georgetown to Dupont Circle. I am now finding that I have a million new musical ideas and, as always, not enough time to explore them all. But I want to make sure that all the fans worldwide know that there will be new music this year and that it's only a matter of time before it's released.

Also, keep your fingers crossed that DC's Pride Festival has me back on the bill for this year's show. I want to do my new version of "Sara" live on stage for 200,000 or so of you.

CONDO COMINGS & GOINGS

Turns out I might be venturing out this evening after all. Got so much work done today that I might reward myself by showing up at one of the local Dupont haunts to let the haters and ex-boyfriends and pissed off gossips wag their tongues some more. They need something to do after all - Lord knows most of them don't seem to have enough to do - what with their sitting at the bar every fucking night of the week while I'm working my ass off cutting a new album. I actually only went out one time this week and then only for about 15 minutes or so. It was the same old, tedious scene. I keep telling myself that I must skip over to the other side of Sodom (17th Street) and check that out again. It's been too long.

I've been sitting up here in my studio all day watching the comings and goings in the condo across the street while working on new tracks. There are some cute guys over there. One of them came out around 11am this morning and whistled at me. How sweet. Makes getting out of bed early worth it.

A WORKING WEEKEND: "Grey's Anatomy"

Hello Blue Boys & Girls,

I shall be staying home and living the life of a studio wizard this weekend - as I have been asked to work on some tracks for the hit show "Grey's Anatomy"!

Also, I'm preparing a new radio release of "Joy" and have been extremely heartened so far by the wonderful response from a few very important radio concerns. Gaydar Radio in the UK has a truly HUGE audience and they have OKed the track for submission. I think they will love it. And I also have hopes that SIRIUS OutQ will play the song - just as they played "Boy Seventeen" and several others last year putting me into their Top 100 artists along side Elton, Scissor Sisters and a lot of my other heroes.

Anyway - I know this blog has been seriously negative for a while (although plenty of you seem to like it judging from the email) but I'm feeling the fog lift. I am no longer under psychic attack and Spring is in the air. A week without the busy-bodies and creepy-crawlers has been really good for my mental state and I'm looking forward to getting a lot of recording done in the next 2 days.

But don't worry. I shall make my triumphant return to the gay bars of DC next Tuesday night. Hope to see all of you there. Ok. Well, not ALL of you.

Friday night, just got paid...

Actually no I didn't. I'll have to wait a bit for that - but a lack of funds won't keep me home! Sometime around midnightish I shall hit The Fire Place in Dupont Circle, see who's there and have a few stiff drinks. Will I see John, or Bill, or Mike, or Bruce, or David? Will I see the elusive and oh so mysterious Maynard who left several cryptic phone messages on my machine early, early this morning? Well, there's just no way to predict. There's always drama at the place of flames.

THEN...tomorrow I shall be completing the wiring of my studio and after that I hope to get down to some serious mastering of new tracks for my next record. Can not wait to release some new tunes to the masses. Hang in their for more info on that soon.

Poor George Michael. What was he doing a few days ago - slumped over the wheel of his SUV on a busy London street corner in the middle of the night? We may never know but I would like to wish him well as he continues to do really stupid stuff on a fairly regular basis.

I know that whenever I have illegal drugs on me I always like to go out for a nice, long drive through the city. Just seems like the thing to do don't you think?

Actually, I love George's music and in fact his latest brush with disaster has me re-listening to a whole bunch of his old tracks. I personally think the guy has one of the greatest voices in all of pop music. If you don't think so - go listen to One More Try again and then see if YOU can sound like that. On top of his awesome pipes the guy is an incredible writer and performer.

George - please stop doing dumb stuff in public places, get your shit together and make some more great music. We need less bathroom / drug arrests and more Faith. PEACE.

NEW T-SHIRTS

Helloooooo!

I was out with Maynard again tonight blue boys and blue girls! Seems he's purchased himself an mp3 player and is absolutely in love with this gadget. Of course, the fact that I gave him a Delphinium Blue CD with some studio-burned tracks on it didn't hurt.

If you haven't heard "Little Sister" well I'm sure Maynard would want you to - so go download it at iTunes...it's on the radio all over the world and it is pretty (that's as much as I'm gonna say about my own song).

Anyway, the REAL reason for this post is that Delphinium Blue has 2 new T-Shirt designs out and YOU really ought to get at least one if not both. I personally slapped asses and pinched nipples to get these made and they're pretty cool if I do say so myself.

One is a painting of me-self and the other has great big words on it: "the secret life of boys". That one is designed to remind everyone of the first album that came out on iTunes 2 years ago and is still there alive and kicking.

Personally I think that "The Secret Life of Boys" album sounds better than most electronic-pop albums released since it came out. Yes, I think I was a bit "before my time". Go get it. Check it out. If you like Pet Shop Boys or Depeche then you'll love this album and the T-Shirt that commemorates it.

A NEW GAY LABEL: MUSIC WITH A TWIST

Word has reached my jaded ears that Sony is starting up a new gay label called Music With A Twist.

First off I totally HATE the name. Not because it implies that gays are twisted or off-kilter (because I know I certainly am) but just because it sounds too cute. Second I think the fine people at Sony are in for a shock when it comes to dealing with queer artists.

We are very used to calling our own shots and a lot of the indie gay artists that I know or have met (Crystal Waters, Ultra Nate, Ari Gold, Bob Mould etc.) are very self-directed and self-contained. They run the show the way they want to run it. Still it's an interesting idea.

So, go ahead Music With A Twist: make me an offer I can't refuse.

WELL MEANING ACQUAINTANCES

So, DC got 9" on Saturday night and I had some fun too!

Went out to the clubs, ran into some "friends" and we went back to my place for tea and biscuits.

Now its' Monday and I have already received two emails - by no doubt well meaning acquaintances - regarding my having been seen leaving a local bar with these two "friends" of mine. As if they know what went on. Believe me they do NOT - despite apprearances.

Whatever! Can you believe the downright evil nosiness of some people? Grow up! We were all at a gay bar for Christ's sake! Here's what I have to say to those homos out there who want to pretend that sex is bad and that gay bars don't naturally function as pick-up joints for gay men:

What is it with some of these fags in Dupont? They act like jealous/prudish 14 year old girls. Why is my every move SO fucking important? Why are they so Victorian? Again YOU don't know what I did after I left the bar. So, get a life.

Getting ready to go out and meet some friends at The Fire Place in Dupont Circle (in DC). Looking forward to wiring up the old studio equipment this weekend and getting back to work on new Delphinium Blue tracks. I hope to release a new EP sometime in the Spring so check back for updates on that.

Then, after mastering on the EP is done, I'll probably make a decision as to whether or not to perform at Pride this year. Assuming I'm asked. Also, talking to a friend about doing other live shows here in DC. We'll see what comes of all that.

NICE PACKAGES & HOT ASSES

Oh my god! I was at the local supermarket tonight and I watched these really cute young (obviously straight) guys punching each other quite hard over and over again. One would punch the other in the chest and then Mr. Chest would punch Mr. Puncher in the arm. It was violent and it kind of turned me on. But what I was really struck by was how they were both dressed.

I guess BAGGY would be the most apt description. What the fuck is going on with young men these days? Has this 5-sizes-too-big shit seeped in from hiphop culture or something? And believe me you can KEEP hiphop for the most part. I like a few of the beats in some rap "music" but the vast majority of it is crap made by people who unfortunately do not know much about Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder or Miles Davis and whose favorite lyrical subjects are guns, bitches and living in a ghetto! Sheeeesh. Yeah we all wanna do that! Right...

Anyway these two gorgeous young things were completely buried under yards and yards of cloth - far, far more than was required to cover them. When I was a kid we wore clothes that FIT. Imagine that? There was nothing hotter than a cute guy with a big package and a nice butt. Nowadays you can't see shit. It's a shame all that baggy, hiphop "fashion" is NOT flattering to the male form by any stretch of the imagination. It's ugly, boring, unsexy and it makes you look like you don't ever want a paying job and like you'd rather be smoking crack and robbing gas stations.

Listen up straight boys: buy some jeans that fit your beautiful bodies. Do this soon - preferably before you no longer have those bodies. At some point you will become older and saggy and you'll have spent your youth all covered up like some dowdy nun.

Hello Blue Ones,

I am thrilled to report that the big move has been completed. I have somehow managed (with a little help from my friends) to transport all of my worldly belongings to my new apartment in the sky on P Street in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC.

I still don't feel completely normal however. My energy is way down. But I am slowly coming back to life. And my kitten Stella is eating again. She stopped for a day - such was her upset over being moved to a strange new place.

Anyway - all is well and I shall soon be recording again. New material for a couple of new EPs I hope to release this year. More info when I have it. PEACE.

MEZMERIZED & A ROOM WITH A VIEW

My dearest blue-people (and you know who you are):

Yesterday, the weather in Washington, DC (where I more than exist) was absolutely fucking awesome beyond belief. The temperature was 64 degrees and the sun was shining. Gorgeous. I got up early, went to the new building to sign the lease and then a friend and I got a couple dozen boxes moved up to my new high rise apartment in the sky.

I later returned to the old apartment to chill and drink half a bottle of red wine. Delicious. Got drunk at home listening to Faith Evans' remixed "Mezmerized" - which is really a cool track and then sang along like a drunken sailor to a bunch of old Elton songs..."Makin' friends for the world to see..." "B-B-B-Benny and the jetssssssss..." That's my idea of fun. Just sitting at home drinking wine and singing songs. Perfection. I don't need much more than that to make me happy. Maybe a stage once in a while.

But...I did eventually get my ass up and head back to Dupont for the 3rd time in one day just to see the view from my new balcony at night. I won't actually live in the new place until next weekend but I just wanted to go up and take a peek at the sights at night - and it was cool. I can see the National Cathedral way off in the distance. And I caught sight of a really cute guy 2 floors down, out on his balcony looking up at me. Hhhmmmm. Interesting possibilities.

This new building is SO gay. Gay. Gay Gay. My god is it gay. Did I mention there are a lot of gay people in the new building? 'Cause there are. And I intend to borrow a cup (of sugar) from each and every one of them.

OK enough babbling for now. I'm making a big pot of stew. Chicken and brown rice and brocoli and potatoes and carrots and all kinds of snails and puppy dog tails and so forth and so on. Love you all. And if you love me - go by some tracks at iTunes. PEACE.

Hello Blue-boys and Blue-girls!

I am preparing to up and move - but as of the moment I have no idea whether the all powerful "apartment people" are going to accept me and let me in or not. It's a bit worrying. Anyway...

These lovely people have been VERY thorough with the paperwork and references etc. - and they even required a cosigner (thanks mom) even though I am by no stretch of the imagination broke or even financially challenged. It seems that I instead have a problem called "cash to debt ratio" or some such thing. I make plenty of money but unfortunately (like most cocksuckers) I evidently spend plenty of money as well...Who knew?

Whatever! That's what WE do. We buy stuff. Ask Elton John. He'll tell you all about it...

Anyway IF all goes well I will move at the end of next week - on the 20th - to new digs on the 8th floor of a well known building in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC. If I don't get it then I'll keep looking.

But I love the new place - well I should call it the possible-new-place because I don't exactly have it just yet. And if I get it I will be oh so pleased. Great view of Rock Creek Park and the rooftops of some very prominent gay bars! I can stand on my balcony, sipping red wine, listening to my latest track playing in my studio and watch the drunks stagger out of my favorite bar across the street. Yes, that's right. I will be living directly across from the bar I frequent the most...Dangerous I know. But also fun, fucking fun, fun, fun!

In any case - I started packing for real just today. Been at it all afternoon and now my back hurts a bit. But it's nothing a little wine won't cure.

And now - I am fully showered and dressed and ready to go out and see the boys. I'm gonna hit Windows and Cobalt and JR's and Chaos and then go have dinner with a friend at Annie's Paramount Steak House. Mmmmm-mmmmm good!

Hello Blue People All Over The Big Blue World!

No I am not dead. But I have been close.

Life changes. And mine has---yet again. Seems that I am single now and getting ready to move to new digs. You figure it out. Go ahead. Use your imagination.

There are plans for new releases this year. Probably a couple of EPs. So keep checking back.

Really a lot is going on with Delphinium Blue. Getting played on a a HUGE number of podcasts all over the world and I appreciate every single producer out there who has played me. Thanks people. You all rock and you podcasters are the fucking future! Also, have been getting a fair amount of play on radio both internet and regular terrestrial stations. And thanks to all the DJs for that.

MADONNA'S TRIUMPHANT RETURN

I predict that the one and only Madonna Veronica Louise Ciccone Ritchie will rule the radio, the tv and the discos this winter and probably far into much of next year.

I for one can not freakin' wait until the goddess drops her next album on the world November 15th! The disc is titled "Confessions On A Dance Floor" and is reported to be entirely made up of highly danceable tracks which should keep the gay boys shaking their groove-thangs well into next spring. At least that's what I'm hoping for. But then I liked "American Life"!

I was reading today that Maddy has been training, doing pilates classes, has been back riding horses and was spotted in London shooting part of the video for her first single from the new album (the single is called "Hung Up").

You can't keep a good woman down! God bless the Queen of Pop. Looking so forward to seeing you back where you belong my dear!

RAIN & RADIO

It's pouring rain tonight as I write this; the first real rain we've had here in DC in over a month. I love rainy nights. Everything looks better with all the reflections and so on. Hopefully tomorrow night when I hit the DC clubs with the bf it'll still be damp.

Got a few eMails this week from fans wanting to know what's happening with dB.

What's happening is that recording and mixing on "Sara" is coming to an end this weekend and at the same time I'm gearing up for a radio campaign. We have contracted with a prominent radio promo company to put the dB track "Little Sister" from the Rush Push album into the hands of literally thousands of Program Directors at gazillions of radio stations both terrestrial and internet. When exactly this will happen is somewhat up in the air and depends on the availability of what are called "Add Dates" (radio jargon for the day an artist would like for radio to start playing their release).

Anyway - it won't be a long wait for this track to hit radio. And "Little Sister" has been extremely popular with fans for a long time. So it was a logical choice for a fall release. If you hear it on one of your favorite stations in the coming weeks please call the station and ask them to keep playing it. We'll get a list of supportive stations out as soon as the data starts coming in on who's playing us.

WHAT I DID SUNDAY NIGHT

So just when I thought the weekend was over - my boyfriend asked me to accompanying him early Sunday evening to fetch his car which he had left in Washington, DC's Dupont Circle area the night before. We had been out club-hopping and we don't drive under those conditions.

Anyway I thought we were just going to get the car and pick up some Thai food. Instead we ended up at a fantastic new restaurant called "21 P" where the bf has friends. I highly recommend this place so if you're in DC check it out right at the corner of P Street and 21st Street NW.

Anyway we there chatting at "21 P" and listening some of my tracks on the sound system when we get a call from a girl friend of ours (I'll call her C.) and before long she had joined us and we were all drinking shots and well...an hour later we're at friend's doing still more partying. On a Sunday night no less. Lord!

I wonder what all the straight people were doing for fun Sunday night?

Anyway we had a blast. We blew off steam and now I'm back to work putting final touches on my new version of the old Fleetwood Mac song "Sara" - which I hope to release sometime around the first of the year.

Just wanted to turn you all on to a guy in San Fran who is doing a great pod cast that's worth checking out on regular basis. His name is Jamie Whitaker and he was kind enough last week to play a track of mine on one of his many shows. That track was "Joy" from the RUSH PUSH album.

I wrote to thank him and he turned out to be a (hot-looking) sweet heart with a mind for politics and other interesting things going on out in California - and the whole wide world I would imagine.

His shows have a laid back vibe that is SO missing from radio and other media these days. I highly recommend it.The web site at SOMAcast.com gives the following description:

Podcasting - for those of you who've been living under a rock - is something new that's turning into a very big and very democratic thing on the web. If you have a point of view or something to say you should be doing what this talented guy is doing.

I was rather blown away by some of the other artists he played on Show #9 (the one that featured one of my own tracks). There really was some amazing and beautiful stuff there that I had never heard. Went out partying last night in Dupont Circle - with friends. Stayed up a bit late but had some much needed FUN. Recovery mode now in full swing. I'm preparing to re-enter the atmosphere of work, work and more work. Hope my heatshield holds.

Recording on "Sara" is progressing. Got a couple of new vocal tracks down last night before heading out to the clubs. With those in place I can now continue to tweak the music tracks. No plans to rush the mixing. I want to make this track as good as it can possibly be.

These and other less savory words have been used in a few emails I've received lately from rightfully-pissy fans who are wondering where I am and what I am doing for God's sake!

Am I dead? No.
Am I in jail? Well, not yet.

I'm fine. Really. Thanks for your concern. And I do apologize for my blogospherical absence. It's summer and I hate this time of year - at least here in DC where the nation's capitol is built on what is essentially a swamp. I mean it gets mother fucking hot as shit in this town during July and August and I can not wait for it to be over, over and more over.

Right now I'd love a nice blizzard with maybe - oh I don't know - 2 feet of fresh snow outside. THAT would be so nice. So, so, so nice. Have I mentioned how I hate the heat?

I am working however. On new music. You'll be glad to know that I hope. I have become obsessed with completing my version of Stevie Nicks' "Sara" and trying to figure out how to get through the legal mumbo-jumbo of releasing it.

You see - you can remake someone else' song without any problems but you can not release it without jumping through some serious hoops. We have contacted our record company about arranging to put this track out when it gets completed and I even sent them a demo of the song a few weeks back. We heard no response from our A&R guy Jason. To be fair Jason is a very busy guy. He has to deal with a whole bunch of ego maniacal artists and not just me, so he's kind of occupied most of the time and this is not a project that is about to be finished anytime soon so it's certainly not on his front burner.

Anyway the track is sounding pretty good. Very good. I have a new mix that's much cleaner and better edited than what I sent Jason a while back so we'll see. I just love the song and I definitely want to do it live. And I want to send it out to radio probably in January of 2006 when all the college stations get back up and running again. And I'd like to have it out at iTunes but that takes a lot of legal finesse - and thus the need for our label to get involved.

I could, however, put the track out as a CD much more easily than I could get it legally released over the web at iTunes. A physical CD is easier to arrange than a downloadable track. Go figure. So maybe we'll do that eventually.

Anyway - I do apologize for seeming to be dead these last several weeks. Ok maybe a month and a half. I'm very much alive. And very much working hard on new music. Hang in there. And here's wishing for a nice, cold winter! PEACE & LOVE to all you blue, blue people.

STEVIE NICKS MUST GET PAID

Up late tonight - actually it's 2:11am Saturday morning - working on "Sara". Trying to arrange with our record label INgrooves to release this track sometime in the coming Fall or Winter. It's complicated -- Stevie Nicks has to get paid and so does her Publishing company. Totally cool with me - it's just a bit of a chore filling out all that paperwork to make sure we're doing everything legally. And it's not like we're going to sell a million copies. And it's also not like she isn't already pretty damn well off. But I love Ms. Nicks and have been a huge fan forever - going way back to when I was a kid. So, I will not let Stevie go unpaid! Damn it. The gold dust woman must get her due! And she will if I have anything to do with it. And...well,I do.

In any event - the track is turning out SO nicely. A few friends have heard it and everyone is elated at how cool it is. Hope you will all get to hear it in a few months.

Now I must make myself another vodka and diet Coke (yuk, but that's all there is in this house at the moment) and get back to mixing. PEACE & LOVE to everyone on the big blue earth.

SARA (My Version)

So - you'll never believe what I'm working on tonight. Do you remember Stevie Nicks? Just kidding - of course you do. She's amazing. Her songs with Fleetwood Mac are to this day some of my most favorite songs ever, period. Well, a few weeks ago I got in a crazy mood and picked out the basic parts for her song "Sara" from the Tusk album. I always thought that song was gorgeous and haunting and I have no idea what it's about - but I am now working on my own somewhat more electronic version of that same song.

An interesting thing that I have discovered in doing this track is that what Stevie actually sings on the Mac version of the track is NOT quite what's written in the booklet that comes with the album and in fact her vocal varies considerably from many versions of the lyric that I have found on the web. So, since I always loved her vocal I wanted to do pretty much what she does and so I've listened to Stevie's singing over and over and transcribed what I think she's saying.

Hope I do it justice. But I just love the song and my version of it is kind of cool. The old Mac version is kind of mild and calm and relaxed compared to my rendering. I guess since a lot of years have passed - I actually have better electronics to make the song with and that's making it SOUND punchier and brighter. Which is a good thing.

But that beat is hard to ignore and that driving bass (which I would bet Mr. Buckingham did himself rather than John MacVie) but I'm guessing.

Enough rambling. Okee-Dokee as H. Lecter likes to say - I gotta go sing now. PEACE & LOVE to you all.

It's SOOOO hot here in DC. 94 degrees last time I checked. I'm hiding out inside with most of the lights off and the air-conditioner on HIGH.

You might have noticed that the web site has a new look. A lot more blue. It's cool and easy on the eyes and kind of comforting.

Anyway - just checking in with all you blue people. My pal Kenny Taos is playing at a local club called Polly's (I think that's right) tomorrow night (Wednesday evening) and I'm thinking of showing up to lend my support. I've produced 3 tracks with KT (as I call him) and he's a great singer.

2005 PRIDE PERFORMANCE

Had a blast at the Washington DC Pride Festival today appearing on stage along with Betty, former Husker Du guitar-god Bob Mould, Amber, R&B diva Deborha Cox, Kenny Taos, porn-super-producer Chi Chi LaRue and a ton of other performers.

It was still relatively cool when I went on at around 12:30pm. But by mid afternoon it hit very close to 90 degress and Pennsylvania Ave (just a few blocks from the Capitol) where the main stage was set up - was sizzling to say the least.

Over all things went well. I did a track from my new Budhatronic EP (just out on iTunes) called "Watching As You Go By" and then did my electronica version of John Lennon's "Imagine".

My entourage then journeyed by cab to one of the best Thai resturaunts in DC - ThaiTanic - where they were giving away free Delphinium Blue CDs and playing my tracks over the PA. We wined and dined for an hour or so. Then we actually walked all the way back to the show in time to catch another whole slew of acts - who were literally backing on stage. More later.

REHEARSING

I'm deep into rehearsing for my big appearance next Sunday at DC's Gay Pride Festival. There's been a change of plans however. Decided not to do "Budhatronic". You'll just have to buy a copy at iTunes if you wanna hear that one. It IS good, by the way. Very good.

But NO - since I'm following the fabulous all-girl group Betty - and since they'll no doubt rock the place to the ground during their set - I have opted to follow them with a more mellow groove. I'm most likely going to do a beautiful unfinished song called Out My Window and then follow that with my version of Lennon's Imagine. These two songs just seem to go together and they're working out really well for me in practice sessions. I can almost remember all the words without fucking up!

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!

Oh my god! It's Memorial Day weekend and here in DC at least - we're celebrating Black Pride!

And that's what I did last night at The Fireplace in Dupont Circle. Just sat there yapping to my friend Mark while all these extremely festive black people came into the bar and took over. The whole place was in party mode. The DJ was playing old disco tracks - Diana Ross, Commodores, Village People. Awesome. Drank myself under the bar and then cabbed it home, "watched" 3 pornos and passed out.

Today I'm working on some ads for magazines and newspapers that we do promotions with and later working on tracks to be used at my Pride performance on June 12th. Can't wait. This year I'm really looking forward to it.

Tonight - I'm supposed to be out again at Windows on 17th Street to meet up with Mark. Of course, we'll end up back The FP as always (just like last night) but at least we're starting off at a different club. Baby steps...

RAIN, RAIN, GO THE HELL AWAY

Thursday morning - after what seems like a year of rain and clouds - and the sun is finally shining and the birds are...well you get the point.

We continue to get a lot of new fans signing up to the Blue List (our private fan eMail list) and that's really cool. A lot of new sign-ups from the UK. And to me that's an honor. I think American taste in art is generally stunted and lagging while the Brits know good music when they hear it. Scissor Sisters were the top selling CD in the UK in 2004 - bigger than OutKast or Britney or Prince. Think about that. The English went crazy of SS and for very good reason: the music is solid, hooky pop and the band is eccentric and fun.

And speaking of the Sisters: I just got a copy of their live DVD and it's cool to see what was happening last year as they toured. They obviously didn't have a huge amount of money at that point - they were playing anywhere and everywhere that they could and the shows are simple. But they're high energy and with the wild costumes the band wears and with Jake and Anamatronic jumping around all over the stage - they remind me a bit of The B-52s.

The DVD has all the videos as well as a full live show and a lot of behind the scenes stuff including a secret area that you have to KNOW how to get to in order to open - in which Jake is in a dressing room changing and...well you get to see the naughty tackle for a few fleeting seconds. He is hot.

AIRCON RED: A NEW WAY TO WAKE UP

Just a quick report from the Capitol of the free world - Washington, DC (where I live and make music, when not under attack):

I was literally shaken awake this afternoon at 12:04pm EST by a fighter jet flying spectacularly low over the house where I live here in Georgetown - about 4 blocks from the Vice President's residence. The paintings on my walls and the windows themselves were rattling furiously. I knew, of course, instantly what I was hearing because from time to time F-16s practice over our airspace. So, I reached over and punched the radio on my alarm clock and began to hear that the White House and Capitol building had been evacuated.

This is not completely unusual here in DC so I did what I normally do: called my boyfriend and then my mother and kept watching the news on TV. Turned out to be some poor fool who was off course. We'll see what happens to this idiot. Hope all is peaceful where you are. I've only been awake about an hour and I'm already stressed out. PEACE.

LIVE SHOWS, MUSIC VIDEOS & A NEW COMPUTER

Sorry to everyone for not writing for most of this week. There is a good reason:

I'M ULTRA BUSY In a good way.

First our main computer went bye-bye. The disc drive got fried. So that meant no access to our web site or updating anything etc, etc...But there's a new machine on the way next week so we'll be back up and running in no time - which is great because I have a lot of news.

Planning for the big DC Gay Pride Festival show on June 12th is moving along. I keep changing my mind about what I want to do - but it's nice to have options and I do. Lots of songs to choose from so we'll see what happens.

In any case, I hope to wear something really stupid and crazy and over the top. I guess I've been watching too many Sister Scissors videos with Jake Shears running around with feathers stuck to his ass. But I really like the vibe of glam performers like Bowie and Elton and that sort. I don't see any reason to take it all so serious that I can't get a little wild. So, maybe I'll come out on stage dressed as Gumby. I don't know. But I promise to be interesting.

The line-up for the Festival gig has been announced here in DC and it includes Amber and Deborah Cox - both of whom I love. So it will be cool to meet them and hang out backstage. Porn super-producer Chi-chi LaRue will also be attending along with some of her super hot studs - I mean "actors". Girl rock group Betty will be playing and my friend Kenny Taos will be coming out to hopefully do some new songs he wrote over the winter.

We're also planning to shoot a real music video in June and have that out for early fall.

I get dizzy when I think about all the shit I have to get done just in the next 3 weeks alone. But it's fun and I can't wait to get back out there in front of that 200,000+ crown on Pennsylvania Avenue on June 12th. PEACE.

DAMN COMPUTERS

The computer gods have struck. Our main office computer which is used to update the web site and do all kinds of other interesting things - like produce CD album cover art and so on - seems to be dead. We are awaiting further diagnostics from several experts who (I fear) will tell me that I have to get a new system.

Anyway - this is why you haven't seen any updates on the delphinium-blue.com web site. In addition, I'm working on new musical material and live production work so things are busy.

The computer thing should get fixed soon...keep fingers crossed.

MAN GAZES AT CAPITOL FOR A BIT TOO LONG

So, it was a beautiful day today in Washington, DC where I live. Everything was peaceful - sun shining, birds singing - when some guy decided to just stand and stare at the Capitol building for 45 minutes without moving. And he had 2 black, suitcases-on-wheels with him.

This, needless to say, got the undivided attention of the Capitol police and they eventually tackled his ass and blew up at least one of the suitcases with a water cannon. After being taken into custody (for the crime of standing still for too long) he reportedly asked to speak with the President. Someone should clue him in that Mr. Bush hangs out at the OTHER end of Pennsylvania Ave.

That's life in the capitol city.

I WANNA WATCH THE X-FILES IN THE RAIN

I can not get over how many people have written to me about "I Wanna Watch the X-Files In The Rain" - a song I originallly wrote back in 1997. Lots of people want to know how it was written and all I can say is that I dreamed the music and most of the lyric - late one night after having watched the show or maybe a rerun of it.

I was always a fan of the series - until up to the end when I started to kind of feel like they were yanking our chains a bit too much and never delivering any kind of final answers about the aliens etc...

In any case - thanks to everyone who wrote in about that track. Who knew it was going to become a hit again on the interenet so many years after I wrote it.

SCISSOR SISTERS DEBUT AWESOME

I'm up late working on the web site (www.delphinium-blue.com) in preparation for all the promotional stuff we have to do this Summer. Oh, and I'm a little drunk.

Occupational hazzard.

Anyway - as I sip Vodka and pineapple juice and work on the site - I've been listening to Scissor Sisters debut album (just called "Scissor Sisters" I think). And if you don't have it you should. Great record. For people who grew up in the '70's it'll sound like a mix of really, really good Elton John sprinkled with little bits of Pink Floyd. Anyway the whole album is upbeat, funky, party-pop-rock-electronica with great vocals mostly by 26 year old (gay) hunk Jake Shears who's on the cover of this month's OUT magazine.

Bottom line: check out Scissor Sisters. And fuck American radio for playing shit - and the same 12 pieces of shit every hour for ever and ever until our ears are bleeding. PEACE.
